I am looking for my greatgrandparents: James W. McCarroll and Margaret L. McCarroll. I believe they may be in a Durant area cemetery. James McCarroll was listed on Evergreen Street in Durant in the 1920 Census. Margaret was last listed on the 1910 Census (along with the family) in Kaufman, Texas. My grandparents met in 1900 when the McCarrolls lived near Bonham in Fannin County, TX.

It would appear that Margaret L. McCarroll died between 1910 and 1920 and is buried in Kaufman or Fannin County, Texas or in the Durant area. I found James McCarroll at age 77 in 1920 and have no information on his death. It would presumably be in the Durant area between 1920 and 1922.

My Aunt, Ruth McMurry, went to college at SE Okla Normal School in 1920-1922, becoming a grade school teacher. She lived with her aunts--the McCarroll sisters Kate and Lillian. I do not recall hearing of her living with her grandfather. This may narrow the time of his death to 1920/1921.

Any help in a cemetery listing, etc would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks in advance, Jim McMurry

I would like to have the Elrod name added as well as Powers, Nations, and Alexander. My father, Joseph H. Elrod, currently resides in Durant, OK, where he has been a long term resident. His father William Elrod, buried in the cemetary in Kenefic, OK, was married to Willie Mae Alexander and they begat 3 children before his death 09-13-1918. Willie Alexander's father, James Minus Alexander married Eliza Ann Powers and lived in Caddo, OK moving later in life to Pushmataha County. Willie Alexander is buried in Caddo, OK as are her parents. The Nations family was joined by marriage in a subsidiary manner and they currently live in Caddo, Ok.

William Elrod was born 10-28-1875 near Cookeville, TN to W. Harrison Elrod and his wife Elizabeth (a lot of confusion about her maiden name). We do not know when he arrived in Oklahoma.

My sister, Virginia Elrod, P.O. Box 3599, Eureka, CA 95502-3599 and I are having a lot of difficulty tracking the Elrod family in Tennessee and would appreciate any help that would shed light on this side of our family. Thank you for your consideration. Jerry A. Elrod

QUERY: Searching for information on the parents/siblings of Eliza Jane GORE, born 1847, died 6/29/1925 Dodd City, Fannin Co. TX. Eliza Jane had known siblings Fannie O. GORE (ANDERSON) and Betty GORE. Eliza Jane GORE is believed by one family researcher to be 1/2 Native American (Cherokee or Choctaw) and we have a picture of her that shows Native American characteristics. Eliza Jane GORE married John Hiram WILLIAMS in Ladonia, TX in February 1865. They had the following children: William Thomas WILLIAMS (b. 6/23/1866), Hulda E. WILLIAMS (b. 11/17/1867), Ella Bell WILLIAMS (b. 8/18/1869), John Hiram WILLIAMS Jr. (b. 3/18/1875), Mary Emma WILLIAMS (b. 9/3/1880), and Walter Lee WILLIAMS (b. 6/3/1883). The GORE/WILLIAMS family has known connections in Bryan Co. and Choctaw Co. One family researcher believes that Eliza Jane's parents died between 1850 and 1860 in the Atoka/Kiamichi area and that they left two young sons, William GORE and John GORE in the area with other families. If you have any information that could possibly fit with this family, please contact me. Happy to share what I have.
