Clarence Atkinson

Clarence LaVern Atkinson was born July 11, 1920, in Earlsboro, Okla., to William Franklin and Alice (Lindsay) Atkinson. He went to be with the Lord on Sept. 6, 2005 in Del City, Okla. He married Lillian Maxine Alfrey on May 12, 1940. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1990, before her extended illness and death in 1997. Clarence served in the Navy in World War II. Clarence spent 55 years as a funeral director, a career he felt called to. He began his years of service to families in Choctaw and Pushmataha counties in 1954. After his retirement in 1985, he continued to work part time until April 2004.Clarence is survived by his daughter, Judith Atkinson, Oklahoma City, and son and wife (his second daughter), Karey and Vera Atkinson of Robinson, Texas. He is also survived by one brother, Glen Atkinson of Owasso, and many beloved sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews from both the Atkinson and Alfrey families. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Albert, Orville, Leslie, and Bill and one sister, Opal. Also, preceding him in death are several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and close friends.

Clarence was a wonderful Christian husband, father and role model. We are all richer for having known him.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Hugo, with Reverend Dick McClure and Reverend Doug McClure officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
