Mrs. J.B. Jeter Buried Saturday

Many relatives and friends gathered at the Soper Cemetery Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock to pay homage to Mrs. J.B. Jeter, aged 85 years, pioneer Choctaw County woman, who death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grover Barton, At Stamford, Texas, Friday, March 14th. Services were conducted by Rev. W.E. McCartney, Methodist pastor, assisted by Rev. Walter Ferguson, of Hugo.
Mrs. Sarah E. Jeter was born at Goodwater, Indian Territory, on June 5, 1861, and was a daughter of a pioneer family, the T.W. Oakes’. She was the last of a family of eleven children, one of whom was the late Judge Thos. E. Oakes, of Atlas. She was married to the late J.B. Jeter, who was head of Spencer Academy for a number of years. To the union eight children were born, two of whom survive. Mrs. J.F. Larecy, of Norman, Okla. And Mrs. Barton, Stamford, Texas. Mrs. Jeter preceded her in death on August 8, 1927. Prior to his death they made their home on a farm northeast of Soper.
