Robert Williams
Robert Williams Found Dead
The Soper Democrat – March 13, 1941
Transcribed by Ron Henson
Robert Williams, aged 28 years, well known resident here, was found dead near his home about 6 miles northwest of Soper Monday morning. It is said that when his body was found all of his clothes were burned off, only his belt and a part of one boot not burned. The body was found about 20 feet away from where a large bonfire had been built.
A thorough examination of the body disclosed a deep cut above the right eye, and the skull was fractured, indicating the victim had been struck with some instrument before the body was burned. Officers are working on the case, and it is believed a solution will be made within a short time.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Williams Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, and burial was in Sugar Creek Cemtery [sic]. He is survived by his widow and two children, Wanda Sue, 8, and Douglas, 6, a sister, Mrs. Lane Lester, and a brother Frank Williams, of Soper.
