Joe L. Pierce (courtesy of the Hugo Daily News - used with permission) Services for Joe L. Pierce were held Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Jesus Name Pentecostal Church in Boswell, Okla. Mr. Pierce died Friday, Jan 23, 2004 in Dallas, Texas. He was 80. Joe was born Oct. 10, 1923 in Boswell, Okla., the son of Sam and Lou (Larkin) Pierce. He married Mary Virginia Byas on Aug. 15, 1947 in Antlers, Okla. They moved to Hugo in 1965. He worked as a truck driver, enjoyed gardening, loved to fish and loved his dog "Buster." He was preceded in death by one son, Billy Joe Pierce in 1971 and 12 brothers. Surviving relatives include: his wife Virginia Pierce, of the home; four daughters: Loretta Hooper, Hugo, Okla., Nancy Amend, Powderly, Texas; Cindy Richardson, Paris, Texas, and Natalie Foley, McKinney, Texas; four brothers: M.D. Pierce, Elmer Pierce, and Pat Pierce, all of Boswell, and Sam Pierce, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Officiating the service was Jan Lee and burial followed in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home of Hugo.
