Ruth Elizabeth “Bebe" Griffith

Ruth Elizabeth John Griffith, beloved wife of the late Francis Milton Griffith and mother of John Francis Griffith, passed away Friday, June 10, 2005, at the age of 98. She was born in Antlers, Okla., on October 27, 1906, the third daughter of Dr. Walter Noble John and Ottie Harris John. Bebe, as she was known by all, grew up in Hugo at the corner of 601 East Jackson in the early 1900s. She developed a lifelong commitment to her family, her friends and her church, where she taught Sunday school for some 40 years. Her older sisters, Lucy Beverly Young and Mary Margaret John, preceded her in death. Her younger sister, Frances Fry, gave her continuing love and care until Bebe passed away.
Bebe is survived by many loving family members including her son, John Francis Griffith and wife Gail of Orange, Texas; her grandsons, Greg Griffith and wife, Tracy, of Bristol, Tenn., Steve Griffith and wife, Lana of Orange, Texas; her great grandchildren, Meagan Elizabeth and John Michael Griffith of Bristol, Tenn., Morgan Deann and Sydney Lyn Taylor and Gage Crowder Griffith of Orange, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Francis and Willis Fry of Hugo, and sister-in-law, Alma Dell Griffith of Hugo; her nieces and nephews, Joann Harper, Robert Young, Martin Fry, Edri Ruth Chiles, Henry Fry, Ward Griffith, and Ruth Ann Craft.
Graveside services for “Bebe" Griffith were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Bill Darrough Pavilion in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with Reverend Kay Buchanan officiating.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 13. Those wishing to make a memorial are encouraged to consider the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
