Alvis Payne

Funeral services for Alvis Payne of Hugo were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, at Southside Baptist Church in Hugo with Reverend Greg Mack and Reverend Bill Stone officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Payne died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Hugo. He was 90.

Alvis Wilson Payne was born on September 6, 1914 in Hugo, Oklahoma, to John William and Effie Myrtle (Lester) Payne. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Hugo, Okla. Alvis had lived in this area for most of his life and had worked as a dairy farmer and a painter. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Billy Max Payne; his granddaughter Lisa Gaston; four brothers, Roy Ernest Payne, Euell T. Payne, Odell Payne, Leroy Payne; and three sisters, Reba Tunnell, Naiome Pipken, and Vista Angel.

Alvis is survived by his wife, Ruth Jewel (Milam) Payne of the home; two sons, Michael Alvis Payne of Sawyer and Roger Patrick Payne of Mansville, La.; two daughters, Sharon Gail Brown of Stillwater and Sandra Faye Winfrey of McKinney, Texas; one brother, J.W. Payne of Hugo; two sisters, Marie Pence and Jackie Montgomery, both of Hugo; eleven grandchildren, Chad Payne of Norman, Clint Payne of Shreveport, La., Kaleb Payne of Sawyer, Kendal Sence of Plano, Texas, Toby Payne and Joshua Payne of Muskogee, Patrick Payne and Blake Payne of Valliant, Dana Mallet of Maumelle, Ark., Tami Pitts of Dallas, and Danny Brown of Austin, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Danny and Clint Gaston of Mountain Home, Ark., Abby Payne of Tulsa, and Kayla, Sonya and Kyle Ostrowski.
