Funeral services for Joyce Messer Forbus, 73, of Longview were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Roger Forbus and Allen Tolliver officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening, May 23, 2005 at the funeral home, in Longview. Mrs. Forbus was born on March 10, 1932 in Hugo to Edgar and Gladys Messer. She passed away on Friday, May 20, 2005 at her residence after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Forbus was a devoted homemaker. She also worked in food service for Grand Prairie School District, and Whitcomb Clinic in Grand Prairie, and later was an apartment manager and bookkeeper in Richardson and Arlington. For a number of years she was very active in the Freetown Road Church of Christ "Ladies Bible Workers." After moving to Longview in 1999, she worshipped at the Longview Church of Christ. A loving, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mrs. Forbus was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 51 years, James Roland Forbus, and sister, Mary Alice Messer. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Christina Forbus of Diana, Texas; daughter, Sally Rees of Longview, 6 grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Robert, Charley, Kristy, and Bob; 10 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Maurine and Harold Voshell; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made in honor of Mrs. Forbus to: Greater Hospice of Texas, 1905 West Loop 281 Space 81, Longview, Texas 75604, and Central Texas Children's Home, 1925 Crane Road, Buda, Texas 78610.A memorial guestbook may be signed at www.raderfh.com.
