Philip "Phil" Foreman
contributed by The Hugo Daily News

Philip "Phil" Foreman quietly and peacefully departed this world on June 3, 2005. He entered eternal peace after a long battle with an illness. Born to parents Ruth (Holmes) and Northum Ben Foreman on January 16, 1933 in Boswell, he graduated from Boswell High School in 1951 and began serving his country with the U.S. Army in 1953 during the Korean War, serving in Germany.

He worked as a tooling engineer for Varel Mfg. Co. in Dallas, where he retired in 1991, and for two years with National Oil Well Cementing Co. in Garland. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1048, American Legion Post No. 119, and Boswell Church of Christ. He was very active in the church, cemetery, politics and community functions, always ready to give a hand when asked and that was often. He assisted with congressional races, Boy Scouts, Sheriff's Dept. and County Commissioner and would have fundraisers to help politicians if it was someone who would benefit the community. Phil was a member of the Veterans Memorial Marker Fund and was responsible for having veterans' names put on the memorial marker located in Restland Cemetery. He helped write four books on the history of Boswell and helped catalog Restland Cemetery. He loved his farm and spent the majority of his free time there. He started each day taking his loyal companion, Dalmatian dog Gracie, for a run and ended the day the same way. He loved and never missed any part of Oklahoma's deer hunts. He was an avid hunter and held a lifetime Oklahoma hunting and fishing license. He brought home a prized 11-point deer, winning $500 in the "Big Buck Contest," just a month before he fell ill. He was a wildlife enthusiast. Phil was responsible for the Fourth of July fireworks show at Boswell Lake. Phil served his country, community and family with honor and dignity and always lended a helping hand.

He joins in heaven his parents; his sister, Bennie Kay Floyd; and nephew Jack Baber.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of almost 48 years, Glenna (Baber) Foreman; Dalmatian dog, Gracie; sister, Martha Ann Cole of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Harvey Floyd of Boswell; mother-in-law, Willia Baber; sisters and brothers-in-law, Verna and Ken Martz of Cando, N.D., Lillis and Oniel Baber of Durant, Pat and Dwain Baber of Mesquite, Texas, Mary and Ottis Baber of Madill; Godchild Lindsay Armstrong; nine nieces; nine nephews; 25 great nieces and nephews; a great-great niece and nephew; a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Philip "Phil" Foreman, 72, of Dallas, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at Boswell Church of Christ, with Brother Hank Anderson officiating, assisted by Troy Ashby. Interment was in Restland Cemetery.

    Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.

    Paid announcement.
