Tilden Argo Marbut

Services to be Wednesday for T.A. Marbut.

    T. A. Marbut 85, longtime Hugo resident, died at 10 P.M. Monday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

    Services will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. in the First Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Keinholz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

    Lampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Tilden Argo Marbut was born December 11, 1876 at Cassville, Missouri and was named for Samuel J. Tilden, Democratic nominee for President that year.

    In March 1898 he married his childhood sweetheart, the former Dora Babb, in a ceremony at Cassville, Missouri with one of their school teachers, the late Rev. E. A. Frost, officiating at the wedding.

    The Marbuts lived in Cassville and Monett, Missouri and later in Kena, New Mexico before coming to Hugo in 1910. He was employed here by the old R. V. Womack Mercantile Co. and for 11 years by the Southland Cotton Oil Company before retiring in 1932.

    Mr. Marbut was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church and served as a Precinct election official in Fourth Ward for many years. He was a life long member of the Democratic Party and maintained his interest continually.

    Surviving are his wife; two sons and three daughters, Joe Marbut and Mrs . Wren Latimer of Hugo. Madison H. (Matt) Marbut of Decatur, Illinois, Mrs. Claud Wallace of Atoka and Mrs. Raymond Pitts of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
