Bernice L. (Abernathy) Hutchings

    Bernice L. (Abernathy) Hutchings, 82, Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in the St. Joseph Retirement Village, Manhattan, Kansas.

    She was born April 10, 1923 at Murphy, Okla., the daughter of Ivey L. Abernathy and Elsie G. Southerland Abernathy. She grew up in Hugo, where she attended the local schools and was a 1942 graduate of Grant High School. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of the Manhattan, Kansas, area since 1967.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Wayne Ervin Hutchings; a daughter Cynthia Kathleen Hutchings; and four siblings, Ova Baker, Dovie McNeal, Floyd Abernathy and Wylie Abernathy.

    Survivors include a brother, Lynn Abernathy, Hugo; five children, Michael (Donna) Hutchings, Springfield, Va., Dale (Linda) Hutchings, Duluth, Ga., Randy Hutchings, Manhattan, Kansas, Sherri (Doug) Underwood, Wichita, Kansas and David (Tonya) Hutchings, Topeka, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2005 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan, Kansas with Sister Dominic Haug officiating. Burial was in the Ft. Riley Cemetery, Ft. Riley, Kansas.
