Myrtle Naake

MRS. MYRTLE NAAKE BURRIED [sic] YESTERDAY
The Hugo Daily Husonian September 7, 1915 - transcribed by Ron Henson

Mrs. Chas. Naake died Saturday night in the hospital in Denison, Texas, after lingering since Monday night from the terrible blow she suffered in the automobile accident the same night. Her funeral was held here Monday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Minor and burial followed, in the afternoon at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Naake and her sister, Mrs. Andrews, were out riding in a taxi-cab and were going at a very rapid pace down the pike near Denison. The car seemed to get from under the chauffeur's control and instead of turning at the proper point went headlong into a stone embankment. The occupants were hurled from the car with terrific force. Mrs. Naake was thrown a distance of fifty feet, striking on her temple. Mrs. Andrews was hurt badly but not dangerously. Mrs. Naake was rushed to a hospital where it was found that she was paralyzed from the neck down. She died Saturday night without pain.
The funeral was in charge of Reverend Riall of the First Christian church, who spoke feelingly of a young life being snuffed out so suddenly. Mrs. Laura Green, of Kinkade, Kan., Sister of Mrs. Naake, and Mrs. Mattie Crosby, mother-in-law attended the funeral. Three children of Mr. and Mrs. Naake will go to McAlester and be reared by Mrs. Crosby.
