Leon Maggard

    Leon Maggard of McAlester, Okla. died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at McAlester Regional Medical Center at the age of 81. Leon was born to Ballard and Evadne (Wilson) Maggard on May 26, 1928, in Octavia, Oklahoma. He married Juanita Welch on June 15, 1986. Leon served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII in Okinawa, Midway and Hawaii. He moved to McAlester in 1946 and was stationed at the U.S. Navy Depot. He retired from the Army Ammunition Plant in 1965. Leon was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester, Oklahoma.

    Leon is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home, daughter, Linda Dassler and husband Henry of Tulsa, Okla.; step-daughter, Kim Goodspeed of McAlester, Okla.; granddaughter, Jimmie Lou Dassler; step-grandchildren: Heather, Brian, Jr., Cody, and Sierra; great grandchildren: Desiree and Levi; brothers, John Maggard and wife Juanita of Holden, Mo., Doug Maggard and wife Clara of Hugo, Okla., Sam Maggard and wife Judy of Octavia, Okla., and Luke Maggard and wife Rosemarie of Wichita, Kan.; sisters, Pauline Davis of Tuttle, Okla. and Ramona Lowrie and husband Jack of Octavia, Okla.; many nieces and nephews.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Peachtree Hospice of McAlester, Oklahoma.

    The family has scheduled a private burial at Octavia Cemetery, Octavia, Okla.. The time and date are pending.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home, McAlester, Okla.
