Arthur L. (Ace) McCown

Arthur L. (Ace) McCown was born to Wade H. and Bertha M. (Harkins) McCown on October 27, 1937 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. His family moved to Lexington in 1947 where he graduated from Lexington High School in 1955. On June 19, 1959 he married the love of his life, Jean Nuckols. Ace and Jean had two sons, Terry and Barry. In 1968, Ace became a trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). His first assignment was in Hugo. One year later he was transferred to Broken Bow, becoming the first trooper ever assigned to that area. In 1976, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to Lawton, Troop F. The family resided in Duncan, and they were very involved in the community and schools. After 12 years, Ace was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1977 and then to Captain in 1988, and transferred to OHP Headquarters in Oklahoma City. He became Major Ace McCown in 1991, and remained at that position until his retirement from the OHP in 1998.After a brief retirement he went to work part-time at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and later became Director of Transportation for the Corporation Commission. He remained in that position until his death, April 25, 2005, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, OKC.
Ace and Jean are members of Church of the Servant, Oklahoma City.
Ace is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean McCown; his son, Terry and wife Carla and grandchildren Mason and Terra of Maypearl, Texas; his son, Barry of Oklahoma City; his brother, Charlie and his wife Cheryl, of Lexington and their children, son Scott & wife Stephanie & children of Springdale, Arkansas and daughter Cristin and fiance Roman & children of Lexington; his sister, Sue and husband, Jack of Crescent, Oregan, and her son Eric, of Choctaw; his nephew Shawn and wife, Krista and children of Austin, Texas; his nephew, Jay and wife Cathy and children of Oklahoma City.
Ace is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George and his wife, Arlene.
Ace was a man of great integrity and a true friend who touched many, many lives during the time God loaned him to us. He loved watching his sons play sports. A bright spot in his life was his grandchildren, Mason and Terra. He loved to watch them play sports and all the activities they were involved in. He also loved to watch OU and the Maypearl Panthers.
A father, husband, uncle and friend. He leaves a void in our lives and we are thankful for the time he was here to fill it.

City, OK with burial in Lexington Cemetery under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home, Edmond, Oklahoma.
