Rufus Clark Spring

     Funeral services for Rufus Clark Spring of Hugo were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Miller & Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Parker and Bro. Mutt Wallace officiating. Interment was in the Spring Family Cemetery.
     Mr. Spring died July 18, 2004, at Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo. He was 96. He was a farmer.
     Rufus Spring was born April 28, 1908 in Hugo, the son of John and Dora (Elrod) Spring and had lived all of his life in Hugo. He married Lorene Mae (Elkins) Springs high up on a little hill on the east side of Hugo, on September 13, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Houston (Scoot) Springs; one sister, Susie Calder; seven half-brothers, Christopher Springs, Ike Springs, Louis Springs, Ben Springs, Eli Springs, John Springs, Jr., and Jackson Springs; two half-sisters, Melinda Springs, Maude Springs.
     Surviving relatives: His wife, Lorene Mae Springs of Hugo; two daughters, Sue Roebuck of Hugo and Shirley Cummings of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, Angie & her husband Randy Cooke of Hugo, Tommy & his wife Rena Cummings of Dean, Texas, Michael Cummings of Tecumseh, Annette & her husband Mark Upton of Hugo, Patty & her husband Steve Payne of Hugo, Amanda & her husband Kent Whitlow of Hugo; nine great grandchildren, Jeffery & Taylor Payne, Anthony & Amber Upton, Spencer Cooke, Elizabeth & Lillabeth Whitlow, Jessica Cummings, Tawny Cummings; one sister, Mary Ethel (Bug) Wallace; and many other relatives and friends.
