At his home in this city, at 8:15 o'clock, Tuesday evening, occurred the demise of W.H. Burrous, a resident of the city since its creation, and a pioneer of North Texas and Southeastern Oklahoma. The deceased was a member of Captain Daniels artillery command of the Confederate army and had lived his mature years in the land of the Southern.
W.H. Burrous was born in Wheeling, what is now West Virginia, September 27, 1836. He came to Texas in an early day and from there entered the service of the Southern Confederacy. For forty years he had been a member of the Christian church, and he built the second residence in Hugo. He was a lover of his fellow men and all who knew him gave to him respect and love. The following children survive their father:
Mrs. B. Buhl, Roxton, Texas; W.Q., J.W. and Gus Burrous and Mesdames C.G. Patterson and W.C. Straugher, and Miss Ella Burrous, all of Hugo.
The funeral services, conducted by Rev. D.J. Eirian Thomas, of the First Christian church, were held at the family residence this afternoon at three o'clock and interment was made at the Springs Chapel cemetery.
