Mrs. Leonard Dies Thursday; Rites Sunday
Mrs. Walter Leonard, wife of principal of Hugo Junior High school, died Thursday about 5 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Paris, Tex., after a long illness. Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the First Methodist Church with Rev. W. E. Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery under direction of the Lampton Funeral Home. The body will be in state at the Lampton chapel until 1 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Leonard, born Harrie Wilkins, on November 8, 1910, was a native of Chitoa, Tex., a daughter of the late Walter Wilkins, who lived at Grant many years and who died last May 10. She moved to grant from Chicota and had lived in Hugo since 1953, four years after her marriage to Walter Leonard. She was a member of First Methodist church here, being active in church affairs until her last illness. She was a member of the sales department at J. C. Penny Company’s Hugo store at the time her illness began. Surviving are her husband and five sons. They are Walt Leonard Jr., of the home address; Walter Lee Gooding, Oklahoma City; Hal Gooding, Plainview, Tex., Dean Gooding, Grant; and Fred Gooding, of Sumner, Tex. Also surviving are her step-mother, Mrs. Chloe Wilkins, of Grant; and these brothers and sisters: Wilbur Wilkins, Grant; Vance R. Wilkins, Narco, Calif.; Ray M. Wilkins, Abilene, Tex.; Mrs. Ruth Ruggles, North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Frances Beene, McKinney, Tex.; and Mrs. Jeanne Cooper, Oklahoma City; and nine grandchildren.
