ELLA MAE WHITE LEONARD, age 93 of Norman, Okla., formerly of Rush Springs, Okla., died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services were held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 7, 2004 , at Rush Springs Church of Christ. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Leonard was born October 31, 1910, in Fort Towson, Okla., and graduated from Ft. Towson High School. She received her BA and M. Ed. degrees from the University of Oklahoma. She taught school at East Cloudy, Hamden Schools, and Goodland Indian Academy. She married Claude Monroe Leonard December 24, 1934, in Idabel, Okla. They lived in Idabel and Atoka, Okla. before moving to Rush Springs where Mr. Leonard worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. She retired after 35 years of teaching first grade at Rush Springs Schools. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed many hobbies including genealogy and was a member of DAR. She was a member of Rush Springs Church of Christ and former Sunday school teacher. She cherished her many friends, former students and extended family, nieces and nephews. She lived at Rivermont Retirement Community in Norman for the past 4 years to be near her family. Her parents, Joseph Sherwood White and Jennie Elizabeth Stovall White and her husband, Claude, preceded her in death. An infant brother, Cecil, her sisters, Leota Robinson, Roxie Henderson, Vira Cook and one grandson, James Ethan Leonard, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Leonard is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. & Mrs. Joseph E. Leonard, one grandson, Dr. Jason E. Leonard and wife, Carrie, and great-grandsons, Corbin and Colin, all of Norman, Okla. The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care of Mrs. Leonard by Dr. Tom Merrill and the nurses and staff of Norman Regional Hospital. The family also greatly appreciates the love and concerns of family and friends of Mrs. Leonard. Memorials may be made to Rush Springs Church of Christ, Box 57-308 W.
