Robert "Bob" Peterson

     A memorial service for Bob Peterson, former owner and editor of the Durant Daily Democrat, was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, 501 N. 15th, Durant, Okla. Family and friends gathered on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at the family's home, in Durant. 
     Peterson died Friday, July 30, 2004, in Durant. He was 76.
     Peterson owned the Daily Democrat from 1957 to 1981 and still wrote a twice-weekly column. The son of Robert V. and Berdena (Loy) Peterson, he was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Stillwater. Peterson attended the University of Oklahoma where he received bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism. He married Sara Ross (Crouch) on Aug. 29, 1949, at Liberty, Mo. Peterson was a member of the Durant Lions Club, Elks, Durant Country Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame and was a member of the Oklahoma Press Association's Half Century Club. 
     He is survived by his wife, Sara, of the home; son, Robert W. Peterson and wife Pam, Plano, Texas; daughter, Dorothy Liwai and husband Jack, Durant; granddaughters Katie Peterson and Kai Liwai, Durant, and grandson Maika Liwai, Durant.
