Teresa Josephine Hicks

Funeral services for Teresa Josephine Hicks of Valliant were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2005, at the Valliant Church of God with Rev. J.R. Hall officiating, assisted by Chaplain Anthony Barnett. Interment was in Watson Cemetery in the Oak Hill Community.

Mrs. Hicks died August 5, 2005, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital-Idabel. She was 98. She was a homemaker and member of the United Pentecostal Church of Valliant.

She was born November 28, 1906 in Golden, Okla., the daughter of Ed Walker and Mary Ann (Bean) Walker and had lived in Valliant most of her life except for the 25 years she lived in Yuma City, Calif. She married James Loy Hicks on June 28, 1925 in Oak Hill. He preceded her in death in 1996. Josephine was a much-loved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and much more. She was an amazing woman who enriched the life of everyone she touched. She loved baking cakes and going fishing and being with her family. She was a pillar of the community who always helped those in need She helped to build the United Pentecostal Church of Valliant. She was a very active member. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons L. J. Hicks, Earl Gene Hicks, and Curtis Ray Hicks, three brothers Henry Walker, Delmer Walker and Edgar Walker, two sisters Eva Mae Walker, and Tula Belle Walker, and one grandson, Douglas Dwayne Hicks.

SURVIVING RELATIVES: one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Yvetta Hicks of Valliant, Okla., a daughter -in-law, Charlene Maegar of Valliant, Okla., 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren, and a host of other adored relatives and friends.

Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2005 in the funeral home.
