Margaret (Buchanan) Oakes

Pioneer Woman Dies Tues. Night Funeral Thursday
Mrs. Margaret N. Oakes, widow of the late Charles Oakes, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. D. Cody, Grant route, at ten o’clock Tuesday night.
Funeral services will be held in the Oak Grove Church, four miles east of Hugo Thursday afternoon at three o’clock with Rev. Rushing officiating, with the Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be in the Choate Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Oakes was born in Tennessee on March 21, 1867, but came to Texas with the family many years ago and came to Hugo community sixty years ago.
She is survived by three sons and five daughters. The sons are W. N. Oakes, F. H. Oakes, Hugo and O. O. Oakes, Soper. Mrs. M. N. McFarland, Mrs. D. L. Bennett, Mrs. G. W. Dodson, and Mrs. Cody, Hugo, Mrs. J. L. Smith, Grant.
Three step-children also survive. Mrs. Denison, G. W. Oakes, and C. C. Oakes, Idabel, and one brother, S. N. Buchanan, Hugo.
Forty-five grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild survive.
Mrs. Oakes was a member of a pioneer and prominent family in this section of the state and her passing will be mourned by hundreds of friends.
