Margaret Shelton

Services for Margaret Shelton were held Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Hugo. Mrs. Shelton died Monday, August 15, 2005 in Hugo at the age of 93. Margaret was born November 18, 1911 in Grand Falls, Texas, the daughter of Edgar Lawrence and Iva Maude (Hayes) Zimmerman. She moved to Okmulgee in 1924 and lived there until moving to Hugo in 1993 to be near her family. She married Ted S. Shelton on July 4, 1931 in Okmulgee. They owned and operated Shelton’s Office Supply in downtown Okmulgee from 1938 to 1970. Margaret also enjoyed ceramics, china painting, crocheting, and collecting dolls. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; three brothers: Hubert Zimmerman, Albert Zimmerman and Kent Zimmerman.

Surviving relatives include daughters and sons-in-law: Iva Ellen and Gerald Kelley of Ada, Rose Ann and John Laymon, San Antonio, Texas, Rita and Ed Risenhoover, Hugo; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ted and Dana Shelton of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17 with Rev. Gerald Kelly officiating.

Services are under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home of Hugo.
