Robert E. Smith

Funeral services for Robert E. Smith of Soper were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005, in Soper High School Gymnasium with Rev. Tim Harless and Rev. Greg Mack officiating. Interment was in the McKee Family Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Monday, August 8, 2005, as a result of an auto accident near Ranger, Texas. He was 53.Robert Ell Smith was born January 20, 1952 in Georgetown, Texas, the son of Stanley and Eva Francis (Long) Smith. He married Oletta Mae McKee on August 7, 1979 in Paris, Texas. He formerly lived in Monahans, Texas and moved to Soper from West Texas in 1986. He was a volunteer firefighter for 12 years, with the past two years serving as the fire chief, and was involved with the countywide fire board, in addition to being a first responder. In his early years, Robert was a professional cowboy, a bronc rider, and rancher. He worked the past 13 years as a truck driver for Kiamichi Opportunities in Hugo and Antlers. He loved to talk with people and tell trucking stories. He was a member of the Archey Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father on January 10, 2002.
Surviving relatives: Wife, Oletta Smith of the home; mother, Eva Smith of Monahans, Texas; daughters, Stephanie Smith of Durant, Candice Holley of Wilburton, Robin Stanford of Andrews, Texas, and Shanna Smith of Tulsa; son, James Andrew Smith of Midland, Texas; sister, Lois Ann McKenzie of Iraan, Texas; nephew, Robert Michael Dixon of Monahans, Texas; 10 grandchildren.
