Stephanie Lawayne Smith

Funeral services for Stephanie Lawayne Smith of Durant will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2005, at Soper High School Gymnasium with Rev. Tim Harless and Rev. Greg Mack officiating. Burial will be in the McKee Family Cemetery.

Miss Smith died Sunday, August 14, 2005, in Fort Worth, Texas, the result of an auto accident with her father Robert E. Smith near Ranger, Texas on Monday, August 8, 2005 due to weather conditions. She was 21.Stephanie was born October 4, 1983 in Odessa, Texas, the daughter of Robert Ell & Oletta Mae (McKee) Smith. She was raised in Soper, Oklahoma and attended and graduated from Soper High School as Salutatorian in 2002. While in high school she was active in 4-H, in addition to serving as the Choctaw County President for two years, she was the CCLA President and played basketball for four years. Her places of employment while attending high school were Sonic, Winn-Dixie, and Nichols Dollar Saver in Hugo, transferring to Durant’s Nichols store when moving over for college. Following graduation, Stephanie attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, working toward a double major in education and coaching. She played on the summer softball leagues and was the super Savage leader in Durant. She joined Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority as a freshman at Southeastern and was serving as President this year. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Smith in the same auto accident; paternal grandfather, Stanley Smith; and maternal grandparents, Harvey & Eula McKee.

Surviving relatives: Mother, Oletta Smith of the home; grandmother, Eva Smith of Monahans, Texas; sisters, Candice Holley of Wilburton, Robin Stanford of Andrews, Texas, and Shanna Smith of Tulsa; brother, James Andrew Smith of Midland, Texas; 10 nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 18, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo.
