Steven Larry Trapp
contributed by The Hugo Daily News
Steven Larry Trapp departed this life on October 29, 2005. During his last moments he was not alone, but surrounded by his family and enveloped by love.
Steven (Uncle Larry to some) was born November 17, 1955, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Thelma and Eugene Trapp. During his childhood in rural Oklahoma, he faced adversity that no child should endure, but Steven was a survivor and never pitied himself the cards that were dealt during his early years. He joined the army and served during the Viet Nam era, eventually meeting his wife to be, Rosa, while stationed in Hawaii. His blue eyes and smile charmed her heart, and soon they married. Rosa’s youngest child from a prior marriage, Victor Grady, became his son and to Victor, Steven became and is, his real father.
Steven is survived by his wife, Rosa, who during his last moments, held his hand and released him to God. Steven is also survived by a sister, Debbie Porter. Debbie could not erase the pain that was part of Steven’s childhood, any more than she could erase the pain that led to his death but she could and did insure that he was not alone when his time came, and that he knew in his heart that he was really loved by those that mattered most to him.
Steven was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Trapp, who departed this life in February of this year, and by his parents, Thelma and Eugene. Steven is also survived by nieces Billie Diamond and Stacey Brown, nephews Russell Hardwick and Tracey Trapp, and his brother-in-law, Lamar Porter. Also special to Steven is his daughter-in-law Jamie Grady, and grand-niece, Anna Orr, as well as grand-nephews Jonathon and Jacob Carmichael, who loved visiting their “Uncle Steve” and “Aunt Rosa” and their three “weanie” dogs (King, Queen, and Little Bit). Also survived by Steven are sons Ryan and Richard Grady, and a person most dear to his heart, Marienela Azar, his mother-in-law.
Thanks go out to those nurses who went out of their way to provide sympathetic care to Steven. Special thanks and heartfelt gratitude is extended to Dr. John Eidt and his team of residents, Dr. “K”, Dr. Peter Kim, and Dr. April Turner. These physicians are truly credits to their profession and to the patients being served at UAMS.
During his childhood, Steven wondered “why me?” Recently Steven became sick and suffered tremendous and unrelenting pain, and he wondered again, “why me?” There are people, like Steven, who have suffered unimaginable hardship. Christ was one of those people. Maybe it is through the suffering of people like Steven that we see life through a different window. Maybe that is the answer to “why me?”
