Carl Ray Maddux, 86, of Paris died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Northeast Medical Center in Bonham.
Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in First United Methodist Church of Valliant, Okla., with the Rev. Dan Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Valliant Cemetery under the direction of Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home.
His body will lie in state from noon until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Swink, Okla., one of 11 children of Mike and Berttie Hackworth Maddux. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He married Katherine Stefanski on April 6, 1946, in Dallas.
He was a retired lieutenant with the Dallas Fire Department, retiring in 1968, after 21 years of service. He retired from the fire department on a Friday and the following Monday he went to work for Sanger Harris Department Store as an electrician, where he worked for 10 years. The couple then moved to Paris where he was an all around handy man, fixing anything that was broken and also was an avid gardener. He was a Methodist.
He was the most giving person with the most easy-going personality. He will be missed by his wife, Katherine of Paris; his daughters, Linda Harris of West Bloomfield, Mich., and Margaret “Margie” Weaver of Austin; sisters, Jean Plunkett of Paris, Ida Bell Browning of Valliant, Okla., Madallee Mooney of Oklahoma City and Mary Richardson of Tishamingo, Okla.; and a grandson, Mac Harris.
