DIED: JULY 22, 2005
Funeral services for Van Ray of Dallas, formerly of Fort Towson, Okla., will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment follows in the Fort Towson Cemetery.
Mr. Ray died Friday, July 22, 2005, in Dallas. He was 86 years of age.
Van Ray was born on May 10, 1919 in Wright City, Okla. to John and Myrtle Ray. He had lived in Dallas, Texas for the past 50 years after moving from this area. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a musician and played Country & Western music and later he played Gospel. He had played on the “Grand Ole Opry” and has a CD out called “Desert Shield.” He had played at the Dallas VA Hospital every Thursday night for the veterans and he and his steel guitar player rode a bicycle built for two from Dallas to Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by three sons, Joe Vance Ray, Douglas Lee Ray and A.D. Ray, all of Dallas; one daughter, Ramona Kotz of Dallas; three sisters; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
