Services for Gertrude Cowley Ritchie were at 2 p.m. Oct. 4, 2002, at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel in Hugo. Interment followed at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 3, 2002, at the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Chapel in Hugo.

Gertrude Cowley Ritchie died Oct. 2, 2002 in Hugo. She was 92.

Gertrude Cowley Ritchie was born June 16, 1910 in Maud Texas to Grady and Lona (Shaw) Mathis.

She married J.L. (Tom) Cowley in New Boston, Texas in 1927 and had lived in this community since 1934.

She was a retired clerk and a member of the Clayton Ave. Baptist Church in Hugo. Gertrude will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son; Troy Cowley; one granddaughter, Peggy Bratcher and one great-grandson, Mickey Meredith.

She is survived by one daughter; Rubye Higginbotham of Hugo, two sons; Mack Cowley of Anna, Texas and Ray Cowley of Brownsboro, Texas; one sister, Miranda Hulsey of Mt. Vernon, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo is handling the funeral arrangements.
