SHELDON, ANDREW J.

DIED: NOVEMBER 8, 1926

Wilson Weekly Democrat - Wilson, Oklahoma - November 10, 1926

Reverend Andrew J. Sheldon, age 82 years, 10 months, and 12 days, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. F. Burnside of S. 5th Street on Monday, Nov. 8.

He was born on December 26, 1843 at Shelton’s Grove, Tennessee, and grew to early manhood in that locality. At the age of 19, he entered the War Between the States, aligning with the Federal Army, making a valiant soldier until the close of the war.

In 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Woody, which union was blessed with five daughters, Mrs. Robert Duke of Oklahoma City, Mrs. G. T. Lowry of Norman, Mrs. Bennett Storey of Muskogee, Mrs. J. E. Carter of Eddy, Texas and Mrs. F. F. Burnside of Wilson.

Reverend Shelton was ordained as a Baptist minister on April 8, 1877 at Shelton’s Grove and was pastor of his home church for 5 years. Later he moved to Lorena where he made his home until moving to Fort Towson, Oklahoma.

He has been a Mason for 50 years and Worshipful Master for 2 years at Lorena, Texas. He was the last charter member of the Lorena Masonic Lodge.

Funeral service was conducted at the Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 with Dr. Karl L. Moore, pastor, officiating. The body was laid to its final resting place at the Hewitt Cemetery to await the Resurrection.
