WEST, EDNA GALE (GILMORE)

BORN: FEBRUARY 14, 1917
DIED: APRIL 9, 2001

Edna Gale West, 84, of Ojai, died Monday, April 9, 2001.

She was born Feb. 14, 1917 in Hugo, Okla., and lived in Ojai for 36 years.

During World War II, she was in the first Women's Baseball League. She was also a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and a den mother. Mrs. West was a club champion at both the Montalvo Golf Course and Ojai's Soule Park Golf Course. She and her husband were the owners of the Locker Market in Ojai for 20 years before passing it on to their son Wayne and grandson David.

Mrs. West is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Jana West of Ojai; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Rick Abare of Ojai; twin brother Dale "Buck" Gilmore of Mission Hills; brother Shay Gilmore of Tahoe; sister Marguerite Kimble of Riverside; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lowell "Rookie" West.

No formal services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society.
