Judson L. Wilbanks
J.L. Wilbanks Accidently Killed
The Boswell News February 11, 1932
Transcribed by Ron Henson for OKCHOCTA
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Judson L. Wilbanks, who was accidentally killed while hunting late Friday afternoon. His body was found on one side of a wire fence and his shot gun on the other side. Supposition is that he put his gun over the fence and it was discharged, tearing a large hole in his body. Death was said to have been instantaneous. According to physicians he had been dead about two hours when found.
Mr. Wilbanks was 53 years old. He came to Hugo in 1902 and for a time was engaged in the newspaper business. He later farmed near town until elected county commissioner. He served eight years in that capacity, declining to become a candidate last term.
During his long residence in this county he took a keen interest in political affairs, and was always working for the upbuilding of his county and community. He took an active interest in rehabilitation of crippled children, and many children were sent free to the state hospital at Oklahoma City largely through his efforts.
Besides his widow he is survived by two children, Miss Dorothy and Douglas.
