Austin Ellis

Graveside services for Austin Ellis of Paris, Texas, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2004, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
Mr. Ellis died Saturday, December 18, 2004, in Paris, Texas. He was 84.
Austin was born on October 22, 1920 in Hugo to Thomas Jefferson and Bertha Ellis. He married Doris Bounds on July 20, 1941 in Atoka. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Fayetteville, Ark., where Austin worked with his brother Raymond at the Fayetteville Flight School. There he obtained his flight instructor's rating and taught ROTC students through the University of Arkansas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 as a pilot where he flew B-26 bombers. He received an honorable discharge in 1946 and returned to his hometown of Hugo, where he and Doris became involved in farming and the feed mill business. They owned and operated Hugo Milling Company until 1980, when they retired. Austin always maintained his flight instructor's rating, even after his retirement, and was responsible for teaching hundreds to fly.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, nine brothers, and one great-grandchild, Lindsay Bell.
Austin is survived by one brother, Bill Ellis of Shawnee; two daughters, Trudy Babb of Harker Heights, Texas, and Peggy Ross of Paris, Texas; three sons, Jim Ellis, Jack Ellis and Ed Ellis, all of Paris, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
