Willie Mae Rhoades

Sunrise services for Willie Mae Rhoades of Hugo were held Saturday, January 29, 2005, in Shoals Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her parents. Mrs. Rhoades died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Pushmataha Hospital in Antlers. She was 78.
Willie Mae Rhoades was born September 20, 1926 near Shoals, Oklahoma, the daughter of George Roy and Donnie Haynes. She was raised down by the river near Shoals and has lived in this area all of her life. She married Charles Rhoades in El Paso, Texas in 1970, and they made their home just north of Twin Oaks. She worked for a short time as Assistant to the Director of the Minnesota Wheat Council. She then worked for the State of Oklahoma for about 16 years, serving as the Executive Director of the Sheep & Wool Commission. She was a longtime employee of Choctaw Electric, supervising many miles of line construction. Willie Mae was responsible for writing the grant, and supervising the construction of the Soper Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving relatives: Husband, Charles Rhoades of the home; brother, Jess Haynes of Oklahoma City.
