Richard E. “Dick” Dawkins Sr.

APPLING, Ga. - Mr. Richard E. “Dick” Dawkins, 79, entered into rest Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the residence. Funeral services were held Friday, October 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Demascus Baptist Church with Rev. Sonny Jones and Rev. Joe Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Dawkins was born in Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. Upon being discharged from the Navy he then joined the Army. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a loving father and husband. He was said to be a friend to all. Mr. Dawkins was a member and a Deacon of Damascus Baptist Church. He was the founder and co-owner of Sheet Metal Engineers. Survivors include his wife, Theda Dawkins; one son, Richard E. Dawkins Jr. of Thomson, Ga.; three daughters, Pat McElraft of Emerald Isle, N.C., Vicki Jones and Debbie Robertson, both of Appling, Ga.; one brother, James M. “Bud” Dawkins of Martinez, Ga., and one sister, Edwinna Gottlieb of McAlester; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
