Benjamin “Floyd” Reed

Funeral services for Benjamin “Floyd” Reed of Valliant were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Valliant with Bro. Mike Mings officiating, assisted by Bro. Bob Thornbough. Interment was in Valliant Cemetery.

Mr. Reed died October 18, 2005, in Texarkana, Texas. He was 89. He was a hardware store owner. He was in the Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Hancock. He was a member of Valliant Masonic Lodge and American Legion.

Floyd was born September 30, 1916 in King, Ark, the son of Benjamin Preasley and Eunice (Faughtenberry) Reed. He lived in the Valliant community most of his life. He was a long time owner of Reed Hardware Store in Valliant. He loved woodcarving, he was also a very good fisherman and hunter. He hunted deer, quail and turkeys. He graduated from Valliant High School in 1936 going on to Oklahoma A&M. He married Bennye Mills on January 15, 1938 in Idabel, Okla. She preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters; Amy Branch and Margaret Reed.

SURVIVING RELATIVES: one daughter; Carolyn Barnes and her husband Buster of Millerton, five grandchildren; Kris Jones and Tina Jones of Valliant, Tommy Barnes of Plano, Texas, Jeff Barnes of Keller, Texas and Scott Barnes of Grapevine, Texas, five great grandchildren; Kristopher Reed Jones, Stevie Jones, Tucker Jones, D.J. Barnes, and Connor Barnes, two sisters; Nova Browning of Valliant, Minnie Lou Bratcher of Florida along with a host of other family and friends.
