Sammie Lea (Walker) Cravins

Sammie Lea (Walker) Cravins, a lifelong Farris area resident, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004, at her home near Farris. She was 77 years, 9 months and 12 days of age.
Sammie was born January 24, 1927 at Elk City, Oklahoma, to Mike W. and Jewel Mae (Dillingham) Walker. Sammie attended Pine Springs School in Atoka County and graduated with the class of 1945 at Savanna High School. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and majored in home economics. She married Johnnie Cravins on Oct. 31, 1951 at Stigler, Okla. She worked over three years for the McAlester News Capital and many years for Dr. Dean in Atoka. She later worked for Truitt Implement and Equipment and for Jack Parker Public Accounting. Sammie was a lifelong Baptist and a charter member of the Farris Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie of the home near Farris; children, Judy Bell and husband Mickey of Farris, Mickey Benjamin and wife Debbie of Hugo, Patricia Fite and husband Lewis of Sibley, Mo., Jacky Cravins of Farris; sister, Sudie Hill and husband David of Farris; grandchildren, Kristi Adams and husband Dan of Hugo, Sean Benjamin of Farris, Misti Lytle and husband Tim of Farris, John Cravins of Farris, Becky Aaron of McAlester, Cody Cravins of Farris, Brandon Cravins of Farris, Shane Benjamin of Hugo, Justin Benjamin of Hugo, Tricia Compton and husband Brian of Hugo, Bekah Langley and husband Clint of Hugo, James Jones of Hugo, Jon Jones of Hugo; nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; nieces, Lori Lester and husband Bob of Fresno, Calif., Amy Isabell and husband David of Lane; nephew, Dusty Hill of Farris; along with numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many very dear and loved friends.
She was preceded in death by parents Mike W. and Jewel Mae Walker; and two brothers, John and Jack Walker.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in Farris Baptist Church with Rev. Loyd Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Darwin Cemetery. Casketbearers wiill be John Cravins, Cody Cravins, Jon Jones, James Jones, Justin Benjamin, and Sean Benjamin. Honorary casketbearers will be Pat Starnes, Shane Benjamin, David Hill, Patrick Starnes, Dickie Hopson and Jack James.
Family night visitation was held Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 6:00 p.m.
Services under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service, Atoka, Oklahoma.
