Robert Sherlock
Fort Towson Enterprise – August 11, 1911 – transcribed by Ron Henson
Killing at Sawyer
Last Tuesday at noon Robert Sherlock, a horse trader, was shot in the thigh near the Rock Chimney, by G.W. Garner and bled to death in a short time. Earl Garner had traded horses with Sherlock and soon decided that he had got the worst of it, returned and wanted to roe [?] back which Sherlock refused to do. Young Garner reported the matter to his father, who took a single barrel shot gun and went to get the horse back. He overtook the traders and demanded the horse, and were trying to settle the matter, got into scuffle over the gun which was discharged with the above results. Justice Igleharts happened to be in Sawyer and issued a warrant for Garner and bound him over under $2,000 bond, which he gave without any trouble.
