Shot At Millerton
Henry Irons Shot and Killed by David Fowler
On Saturday afternoon while the democrats were holding a precinct meeting of the office of Justice of Peace David Fowler at M. Herton [unclear], Henry Irons who was drinking, attempted to ride his horse into the house in which the meeting was being held, and the magistrate ordered the constable to take the drunken man home or make him have the street. This was done, but in a short time Irons returned and began the same tactics and when the constable approached him he, Irons made as if he had a gun, saying that he had his 45 and the justice told the constable to take his gun away from him, whereupon Irons remarked “you do it” and again made a motion as if to draw a gun, whereupon Judge Fowler pulled a pistol and fired, the bullet striking Irons just beneath the eye, and killing him. – Democrat Record
