Carolyn Joyce Cluck
contributed by The Hugo Daily
News
Carolyn Joyce Cluck stepped into her heavenly home early Saturday after a courageous battle with cancer for two years. Carolyn was born September 12, 1934 in Hugo, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fermon & Myrtle (Vandergriff) Lefevers. She graduated as Salutatorian from Hugo High School, Class of 1952. She received her Bachelors Degree from O.S.U. and received her Masters in Education from O.U. She was Phi Beta Kappa for all four years at O.S.U. She met her husband, Ed Cluck, in 1956 at a street dance on the O.S.U. Campus before the Spring Semester; and they were married on September 15, 1956 in Hugo, Oklahoma. She taught School in Oklahoma City at Capitol Hill and Classen High School before moving back to Hugo in 1970. She was one of the first teachers hired on the Hugo Campus of Kiamichi Vo-Tech, where she taught Business for 33 years before retiring. She was well known having taught several generations, both mothers and then their daughters in the Business School. Her daughters, Carla and Paula, were both in her class. She started the Future Business Leaders of America on the Hugo Campus and her daughter Paula was President of the first class. She will be remembered near and far by her students. In addition, she worked locally for Attorney Lon Kile. Carolyn was a member of the Hugo First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and enjoyed performing in the Church Choir and the Hand-Bell Choir. Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and never met a stranger. She always said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", so she was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed traveling, recently taking a cruise to the Bahamas, enjoyed making the area garage sales and flea markets, and enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals. One of her greatest passions was cooking, and she frequently opened her home to share a meal. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Carolyn's name to Mays Hospice Care Inc. at 801 SW "C" Street, Antlers, OK, 74523. Their phone number is 580-298-1154 or 1-800-362-4992.
SURVIVING RELATIVES: Husband: Ed Cluck of the home; Daughters and sons-in-law: Carla Renee Pettyjohn and the late David Pettyjohn of Paris, Texas; Paula Denise & Ned Bronder of Carrollton, Texas; Granddaughter: Taylor Renee Pettyjohn of Paris, Texas; Grandson: Kelley Clayton Bronder of Carrollton, Texas.
