Nannie G. (Harris) Payne

     Graveside services for Nannie G. (Harris) Payne of Hugo were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004, at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Okla., with Brother Donnie Bates officiating.
     Mrs. Payne died Thursday, October 28, 2004, in Hugo. She was 93.
     Nannie G. (Harris) Payne was born on June 8, 1911 in Sawyer, Okla., to Roy C. and Gertrude P. (Taylor) Harris. She was the second daughter, and the fifth child of eleven children and had lived in this area all of her life. Nannie married Francis Edward Payne on October 11, 1930, in Antlers, Okla. She was a homemaker for 30 years and was the mother of twelve children. Nannie was appointed Justice of the Peace when her husband died in 1961, and was re-elected to that office twice. She acquired and ran a fabric shop in Hugo for ten years. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was a constant servant to people in need. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Edward Payne and one granddaughter, Shannon Renee Payne.
     She is survived by three sons, R.D. Payne of Hugo, Okla., Phillip Payne of Paris, Texas, and Chris Payne of Helena, Okla.; seven daughters, Beverly Peiser of Marfa, Texas, Linda Robertson of Norman, Okla., Karen Lyles, Jane Maxwell, Jan Maxwell and Rebecca Smith all of Hugo, Okla., and Jill Shanneman of Clay Center, Kan.; one sister, Billie Bradshaw of Hugo, Okla.; twenty-nine grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
     Family received friends on Friday, October 29, 2004, at the Prater-Lampton-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo, Okla.
     In lieu of flowers, family wishes donations be made to the new Reynolds Memorial Library in Hugo, Okla.
     Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home, Hugo.
