Jesse Edward Morton

Funeral services for Jesse Edward Morton of Hugo were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Wesley Methodist Church in Hugo with Bro. Oscar Wilkie officiating. Interment was in Springs Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Morton died November 10, 2005, at his home. He was 69. He was retired from Public Service Co. where he had worked for more than 30 years. He was a beloved member of Wesley Methodist Church, Hugo and was a certified lay speaker for 30 years.
Jesse was born September 9, 1936 in Hugo, the son of Mitchell Morton and Pearl (Neitch) Morton and had lived all of his life in Hugo. His parents and a brother, Paul Morton, preceded him in death.
He married Jean Carlile on June 16, 1962 at Wesley Methodist Church, Hugo; Jessie enjoyed church work, reading his Bible, fishing, hunting, and loved playing with his grandchildren. He was known for his horseshoe nail crosses that were distributed nationwide and was a cornerstone and pillar of the community. Jesse was a very loving husband, Dad, Grandpa and friend to all who knew him.
SURVIVING RELATIVES: His wife, Jean Morton; one son, Mark Morton and his wife, Lori of Hugo; one daughter, Cindy Parks and husband, Mike of Hugo; one sister, Evelyn Podboreski of Reidsville, N.C.; sister-in law, Linda Morton; six grandchildren, five nieces, and numerous cousins along with a host of family and friends.
