RHODES RITES ARE HELD HERE, Resident Since Early Days Buried at Mt. Olivet
Funeral services for Samuel E. Rhodes, a resident of Choctaw county for the last 46 years, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Church of Christ by Leon Savage, minister. Campbell Funeral home was in charge of arrangements and interment in Mount Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes died at 4:25 a.m. January 8 (1946) at his home, 211 East Trice street. He would have been 80 years old next month, having been born February 26, 1866, in Branden, Miss.
He moved to Choctaw county in the Indian Territory days and had made his home here most of the time since then, engaging in farming. He had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1897, when he joined in Texas. He had been an active member thoughout the years.
Four of the five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes survives him, a daughter preceeding him in death in 1928. In addition to the wife, Mrs. Liddie M. Rhodes, the four surviving sons are L. D. Rhodes of Healdton, S. E. Rhodes Jr., of Penwell, Tex., A. L. Rhodes of Andrews, Tex., and W. J. Rhodes of Hugo. He also is survived by 20 grandchildren, including one, Leon Hines whom Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes reared from infancy, and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Omar Fugate, Henry Griffin, George T. O'Neal, Durwood Wright, J. W. Logan and Wilford Cooley.
