Local Lodge Leader Dies
Hugo Photographer Buried Wednesday In Mount Olivet
Funeral services for Fred J. Whitesel, Hugo photographer who was worshipful master of Hugo lodge No. 217, A.F. and A.M., and district deputy grand master of Oklahoma Odd Fellows, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Hugo Church of Christ, of which he had been a member many years. Bill Smith, Antlers Church of Christ minister, officiated.
Burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery, in charge of Campbell Funeral home, was preceded by committal rites with the Masonic lodge and Hugo Odd Fellows participating.
Mr. Whitesel died in Baylor hospital Monday afternoon, approximately two weeks after he underwent major surgery. He had been in failing health more than a year.
Fred Whitesel was born in Madill on October 17, 1894. He had lived in Hugo about 25 years, during which time he was both a photographer and a tailoring firm representative. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillis Whitesel, of the home address; one son, Jerome Whitesel, Dallas; and one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Morris, Russell, Kas.
One granddaughter, a brother and two sisters also survive. The latter are Willis L. Whitesel, Lawton; Ms. Kate Ingle, Madill; and Mrs. Frank Roberson, Kansas City.
Six years ago Mr. Whitesel took [unreadable] entered apprentice degree of masonry in Hugo Lodge No. 217. The same year he took the degrees necessary for membership in the Hugo Chapter No. 84, Royal Arch Masons; Oklahoma Council No. 1, Royal and Select Masters; and Hugo Commandery No. 30, Knights Templar. Early the next year he became a member of Hugo Chapter No. 211, Order of Eastern Star. He had held various offices in the Royal Arch and Royal and Select Masters Council.
A member of the Odd Fellows lodge for many years, Mr. Whitesel held its top local office, that of noble grand, before being named district deputy grand master of Oklahoma. At the time of his death he was chairman of the local (See Whitesel, Page 2) [page 2 unavailable]
