Willie Ray Knight

     Funeral services for Willie Ray Knight of Fort Worth, Texas, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller & Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ralph Taylor officiating. Interment was in Springs Chapel Cemetery.
     Mr. Knight died February 10, 2004, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 58.
     Willie was born January 8, 1946, in Bonham, Texas, the son of Joe T. Knight and Rosie Lee (Waits) Knight and had lived in Fort Worth since 1996. He was a construction worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Dorothy Mills, Ida Evett and Daisy Bell Thorpe; and three brothers: J.T. Knight, Charles Fisher and Clyde Davidson.
     Surviving relatives: Five sisters: Tommie Bell of McKinney, Texas, Ruby Fay Hall of Farris, Joann Morales of Fort Worth, Texas, Fannie Lou Holton of Hugo, and Lillie Parham of Fort Towson; several nieces and nephews.

Gertha McCarty

     Funeral services for Gertha McCarty, 63, of Hugo, are pending with Rogan Funeral Home. Mrs. McCarty died February 10, 2004, at her home.


Howard Marcum, Jr.

     Funeral services for Howard Marcum, Jr., of Hugo, were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2004, at Miller & Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Sullivan officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
     Mr. Marcum died February 10, 2004, in Paris, Texas. He was 74.
     Howard was born December 28, 1929, in Hugo, Okla., the son of Howard Marcum and Joyce (Ryburn) Marcum and had lived most of his life in Hugo. He married Carol Dickinson on May 26, 1962. She preceded him in death on November 5, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Harold Marcum and two sisters: Doris Henslee and Dorothy McCommon.
     Howard was employed by Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Dallas, Texas, where he lived for a short time before moving back to Hugo. He owned and operated Marcum's Deep Rock Kerr McGee Service Station for 11 years, where he made many friends. He then became a route salesman for Industrial Uniform and Towel Co. of Paris, Texas. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hugo.
     He was an avid deer hunter and crappie fisherman before his health failed. His greatest pleasure was teaching his daughter, Suzanne, to fish. For a short time, he was a tour guide at Hugo Lake.
     He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved daughter, Suzanne Himes and her husband, Randy Lee Himes of Sawyer, Okla.; one brother: William Ed Marcum of Hugo; two sisters: Joyce Kirk of Arlington, Texas, and Barbara Harrington of Kimberling City, Mo., and his special pet cat, Dumas, along with many other relatives and friends.

L.Z. (Scooder) Henson

     Services for L.Z. Henson are pending with Rogan Funeral Home of Hugo. Mr. Henson died Feb. 15, 2004. He was 74.


Lloyd L. Ashley

     Services for Lloyd Ashley are pending with Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Hugo. Lloyd died Feb. 16, 2004 at his residence in Rattan. He was 73.


Margaret Seebeck

     Graveside services for Margaret Seebeck were held Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.
Margaret died Feb. 12, 2004 in Durant. She was 83.
     Margaret was born June 23, 1920 in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Moore and had lived in Boswell for the past 33 years.  She married Ervin Seebeck on June 15, 1938 in Shawnee.
     Survivors include her husband, Ervin Seebeck; two sons: Greg Seebeck of Springerville, AZ., and Mark Seebeck of Boswell, Okla.; one daughter, LaDon Smith of Boswell; two sisters: Louise Brown and Jeanne Kyrias, both of Boswell, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Millard Howard Morrison

     Services for Millard Howard Morrison were held Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo.
     Morrison, a former resident of the Finley area, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 in Dallas. He was 79.
     Howard was born on Jan. 4, 1925 in Daisy, Okla., to Millard Howard and Eula Ether (Morris) Morrison. He had lived in the Dallas area for 36 years. Howard married Catherine Marie Pixley in Searcy, Ark., on March 11, 1951. He was a retired school teacher.
     Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond Morrison and a sister, Dorothy Aldridge.
     Howard is survived by his wife, Catherine Morrison, of Dallas, Texas; two sons: Aaron Keith Morrison of Flower Mound, Texas, and James Clelin Morrison of Dallas; one dauthter [sic], Karen Yvonne Schreibeis of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters: Bertha Mae Wren, of Kemp, Texas and Lillie Faye Townsend, of Gonzales, La.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
     Rev. Keith and Patricia Morrison officiated the service and burial was in Springs Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo.


Florine Batch

     Florine Batch died Thurs. Feb. 12, 2004 in Sawyer, Okla., at the age of 55.
     She was born March 24, 1948 in Wright City, Okla., the daughter of David & Zona Estelle (Brown) Isbel. She worked as a CAN in a nursing home in Burleson, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Paul Frank Batch, in 1994; one daughter, Mollie Rose Batch (1995) and one son, Jerry Lee Oliver (1998).
     Surviving relatives include: (Children) Sandy Estelle Sims, Alvarado, Texas, Anthony Eugene Batch, Indianapolis, Ind., Paula Marie Batch, Grand Prairie, Texas, Penny Darlene Story, Joshua, Texas, James Roy Batch, Joshua, Texas, Eddie Marquette, Venus, Texas (Brothers & Sisters) Marie Thomas, Fort Worth, Texas, Betty Riddle of Texas, Edward Isbell and Bobby Isbell, both of Mansfield, Texas, Linda Fetters of Phoeniz [sic], Az, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
     The family has announced that private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Arlie Vernon (A.V.) Crews

     Funeral services for Arlie Vernon (A.V.) Crews of Hugo were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home with Reverend Dick & Doug McClure officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
     Mr. Crews died Sunday, February 15, 2004, in Paris, Texas. He was 73.
     A.V. was born on October 6, 1930, in Hugo, Okla., to J.A. and Leta E. (Thorpe) Crews. He married Lynette sadler on January 9, 1954, in Hugo, Okla. A.V. had lived in Hugo, Okla., all of his life. He was a route salesman for Colvert Dairy. A.V. was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Indian Veterans Warrior Society and Woodmen of the World. A.V. was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cecil Thompson and a granddaughter, Angela Crews.
     He is survived by his wife, Lynette Sadler Crews; one son, Vernon Tim Crews and his wife Elizabeth of Denton, Texas; a daughter, Sharon Arlene Crews and her husband Keith if Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Elmer D. Crews of Hugo, Okla., and Joseph Crews of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Aileen W. McKenzie of Hugo, Okla.; four grandchildren, Sharolyn Janice McCoy Cerney of Seattle, Wash., Robert Vernon McCoy of Springfield, Mo., John Vernon Crews and Mollie Lynette Crews of Denton, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary Ann Johnson

     Funeral services for Mary Ann Johnson of Soper were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at Sugar Creek Cemetery with Rev. Greg Hammack officiating.
     Mrs. Johnson died Monday, February 16, 2004, at her residence in Soper. She was 68.
     Mary Ann Johnson was born November 16, 1935, in Blackwell, Okla., the daughter of Kenneth Warren Gerboth and Maebelle Ferguson. She has lived in this area since 1977 and moved here from Mustang, Okla. She worked as a Dietitian Cook at the Choctaw Memorial Hospital for many years and at the Circle B as a cook before retiring. She was known as "Sweet Mary" in the town of Soper. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Laura Mae Grisson; and one son Terry Lee Johnson.
     Surviving relatives: Daughter and son-in-law: Wanda & Rocky Hensley of Soper; Sister: Jessie Alexander of Fulton, Ky.; husband: W.A. Johnson of Hugo; grandchildren: Joe Johnson of North Carolina, Roxane Hensley of Soper, Terrie Johnson of Hugo, Cheryl Johnson of Hugo; great grandchild: Jace Johnson of Hugo; daughter in law: P. Elaine Johnson of Pink, Okla.

Ada Dukes

     Funeral services for Ada Dukes were held Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo.
Mrs. Dukes died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Hugo. She was 93.
     Ada was born March 1, 1910, in McAlester, Okla., to Reese Knap and Millie (Philip) McEvers. She married Ernest Wesley Dukes, in Ft. Smith, Ark. She had lived in this area since 1975 after moving here from Santa Paula, Calif. Ada was a homemaker and had worked for the civil service. She was a member of the First assembly of God Church in Antlers, Okla.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wesley Dukes and two sons, Harold Sheppard and Charles Sheppard. She is survived by two sons, Clarence Dukes of Bullhead City, Ariz., and J.D. Dukes of Pocola, Okla.; one daughter, Helen Loftin of Hugo; one sister, Opal Roark of Bristow, Okla.; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
     Rev. Robert Weeks officiated the services and burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
