Funeral Held for Fort Towson Girl
The Hugo Daily News December 1, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Little Miss Vernes Luna, aged 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Luna, of Fort Towson, were held this afternoon at Fort Towson.
    The child died in an Ardmore hospital late [unreadable] night.
    Coffey-Campbell funeral home here had charge of funeral arrangements.


W.D. Davidson

Grant Man Buried Tuesday Afternoon

    W.D. Davidson, 54, of Grant was buried this afternoon in the rGant [sic] cemetery following services which were conducted by Reverend Henry Young, in the Grant Baptist church.
    Mr. Davidson died at his home Monday afternoon. He is survived by his widow, three children, his mother and three brothers and three sisters, most of whom live in Grant.
    Snow funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.


Lela Greenwood

No Funeral Arrangements Announced by Local Funeral Home
The Hugo Daily News November 25, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    No funeral arrangements had been made today for Mrs. Lela Greenwood aged 68, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.T. Elam, west of the city at about 2:45 o’clock Wednesday morning.
    She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ed R. Atkins, of Duncan, Mrs. Viola Hust, Muskogee, Mrs. Ellen Rowen, Lawton and Mrs. Elam of Hugo.
    Also two sons survive. They are Hut Greenwood, of Lawton, and Foster of Altus. Two brothers also survive. They are J.D. Lampkin, Mountain View and John Lampkin of Ranger, Texas.
    Coffey Campbell funeral home will have charge of funeral arrangements.


S.M. Bliss

S.M. Bliss Died At Bliss Hotel Wed.
The Hugo Daily News November 27, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    S.M. Bliss, aged 68, owner of the Bliss Hotel died Wednesday afternoon at the Bliss hotel following an illness which lasted for more than two years, according to word from the Coffey-Campbell Funeral home today.
    He died from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered early Wednesday morning.
    Burial will take place in the Mount Olivet Cemetery Tuesday. Funeral arrangements are held up pending the arrival of a daughter from Kansas City, Kansas.

Funeral Services Were Conducted at Springs Chapel

    Funeral services for Mrs. Luealla Tranthan were held this afternoon at the Springs Chappel [sic] cemetery.
    The deceased died at the Johnson hospital at about 7 o’clock last night following a short illness.
    She is survived by her husband, Floyd Tranthan. Her father and mother Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Record, and five brothers and sisters. They are Mrs. Myrtle Rhodes, of Florida; Mrs. Louise Record, Hugo; Mrs. Lola Mansell, Florida.
    Brothers, Eddie Record, Atwell Record, both of Florida, Gusta Record, Johnnie Record, and Vernon Record all of Hugo.
    Snow Funeral home had charge of the funeral arrangements.


Lois Neitch

Small Child Buried at Springs Chapel

    Little Miss Lois Neitch, aged three, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Neitch, who reside about 9 miles northeast of the city, died late yesterday of diphtheria.
    Funeral services were conducted this morning at the Springs chappel [sic] cemetery. Snow Funeral home had charge of arrangements.


John Miller

John Miller Died At Grant This P.M.

    John Miller of Grant, a pioneer resident of the county died at his home in Grant late today, according to word from the Snow Funeral home.
    No funeral arrangements had been announced by the Snow Funeral home which had charge of funeral arrangements.


Florence Watson

Mrs. M.S. Watson Died Early Tues.
No Arrangements Are Made Pending Arrival of Relatives

    No funeral services had been announced at press time today for Mrs. Florence Watson, 49, wife of M.S. Watson.
    Mrs. Watson died at her home suddenly at about 5 o’clock following a stroke which she suffered about 9 o’clock Monday night.
    The body late today was being held at the Coffey-Campbell funeral home pending the announcement of relatives concerning burial.
    The arrangements were also being held pending the arrival of two brothers from Arkansas.
    Full details concerning the life’s history of the deceased and funeral arrangements will be announced in The Daily News Wednesday.


Angie Earwood

Mrs. Angie Earwood Died Late This Afternoon

    Mrs. Angie Earwood, aged 83, of the Oak Grove community, died this afternoon at her home at about 2 o’clock.
    Funeral services will be held, according to the Snow Funeral home, at 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Oak Grove church.
    Reverend M. McFarland assisted by Rev. J.B. Ward, will officiate at the funeral services.
    Mrs. Earwood is survived by four sons, D.W. Earwood, Hugo; Ollie and Jessie of Causey, New Mexico, and Esker of Marietta, Ga.
    Also she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sallie Baney of Gay, and Mrs. Lillie May Tate, of Hugo.


Mrs. Tom Mitchell

Funeral For Hugo Woman to be Held Sat.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Tom Mitchell, 18, who died in the Hugo Hospital early this morning will be held Saturday afternoon at Talihina, word from the Coffey-Campbell funeral home stated today.
    Mrs. Mitchell died following an illness of about 4 weeks, the announcement stated.


Hazel Messer

Funeral Services Are Held For Miss Messer
The Hugo Daily News December 21, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Miss Hazel Messer, 18, of the Southeast Grant community were held Sunday afternoon at the Choate Springs Cemetery.
    Miss Messer died early Sunday morning following a long illness.
    She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Messer and four brothers and sisters.
    Reverend H.W. Young officiated at the services.
    Snow Funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.


Henry Ballard

Henry Ballard Died This A.M.
Arrangements Held Up Pending Arrival Of Deceased’s Son

    Henry Ballard, 89, died in the Johnson hospital at about 4:30 o’clock this morning, word from the Coffey-Campbell funeral home stated this noon.
    The body is being held at the Funeral home pending the arrival of Harry Ballard, a son who resides in Bedford, Penn.
    Surviving relatives are Mrs. Mattie Rivers, a niece, and at whose home he had been living for the past year; Mrs. Ida Wilson and Mrs. Clint Lambert, cousins, both of Hugo.
    Funeral arrangements will be announced in The News following the arrival of Mr. Ballard from Pennsylvania.


Sallie Taylor

Funeral Services Held for Aged Grant Woman

    Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Taylor, aged 73, were held at the First Baptist church Sunday afternoon, at Grant. Interment followed in the Grant cemetery.
    Funeral services were conducted by Reverend H.W. Young.
    Mrs. Taylor died at her home in the Gay Community following a long illness.
    She is survived by her husband and five children.
    Snow funeral home conducted the rites.


Mrs. M.E. Peck

Mrs. M.E. Peck Will Be Buried Wednesday

    Funeral services for Mrs. M.E. Peck, 83, will be held at the Methodist church at Soper Wednesday afternoon, following a short illness.
    Mrs. Peck died at her home in Soper following a short illness. [sic]
    She is survived by two granddaughters, Mrs. Welcom Wilson, of Soper and Mrs. Pauline Russel of Holdenville, and two sisters, and one brother all of Louisiana.


G.L. Scott

Dr. G.L. Scott Buried Tuesday
Pioneer Co. Resident Died Early Monday Morning
The Hugo Daily News January 5, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Dr. G.L. Scott, 68, of Grant, who died in the Johnson hospital yesterday morning were conducted this afternoon at the Senner Funeral Home chappel [sic].
    Interment followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
    Surviving relatives for the widely known doctor, are one son, Floydell Scott of Houston, Texas; five brothers, G.D. Scott, Kent, Texas; O.B. Scott and John Scott, Houston, Texas; E.B. Scott, of Hugo, and L.F. Scott of Coffman, Texas; also two sisters, Mrs. Bella Sartorius, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Sallie Matthews of San Antonio, Texas.

Grace Reynolds

Mrs. Reynolds Was Buried Sunday P.M.
Pioneer Resident Died Early Saturday Morning

    Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Reynolds, 63, who died early Saturday morning were held Sunday afternoon at a private funeral.
    Interment took place in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, at which place the services were held.
    Mrs. Reynolds was born in Apolla, Penn., March 6th, 1874. She came to Hugo in 1906 from Springfield, Missouri, and resided here until her death.
    Mrs. Reynolds was a charter member of the Presbyterian church here and was quite active in all the church affairs.
    She is survived by four children. They are, Mrs. J.C. Amos, Paris, Texas; Miss Olive Reynolds, a nurse in the U.S. Veterans’ hospital at Muskogee; Cecil Reynolds of Paris, Texas and Mrs. W.D. Cross of Idabel.
    Pall bearer [sic] were Joe Wolff, J.E. Burris, Irving Hartwell, Carl Hansen, Roy Saddler and H.M. Stearwalt.
    Coffey-Campbell funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.


Louise Rimare

Former Hugo Woman Dies In Dallas Texas

    Word to friends in Hugo today stated that Miss Louise Rimare, formerly of this city died at Dallas, Texas Monday.
    Burial took place, according to the information, at Guthrie. Miss Rimare was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Rimare, formerly residents of this city.


W.J. Casey

Casey Rites Held Here Mon. Afternoon
The Hugo Daily News January 5, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    W.J. Casey, who was struck and killed by an automobile near Lawton during the past week end was buried in the Spring’s Chapel cemetery here yesterday afternoon.
    Mr. Casey’s body arrived at the Snow Funeral home at about 1:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon and the services were immediately held.
    The body was brought overland to Hugo.


Roy Lee Gibson

Roy Lee Gibson Died This Morning
The Hugo Daily News January 18, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Roy Lee Gibson, aged 44, of Fort Towson, died at his home early Monday morning.
    Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist church at Fort Towson.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Gibson and two daughters, Segine and Reba.
    Senner funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.


Gus Barr

Gus Barr Died At Spencerville Home
The Hugo Daily News January 25, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Gus L. Barr, of Spencerville who died Sunday afternoon at about 3 o’clock was buried this afternoon according to information from the Senner Funeral home which had charge of funeral arrangements.
    Reverend Foster of Spencerville, conducted the final rites.
    Burial took place in the Spencerville cemetery. Mr. Barr is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, and also one brother in Ohio and a sister in Terre Haute, Indiana.


Mrs. J.S. Hastings

Funeral Held For Mrs. J.S. Hastings
The Hugo Daily News January 24, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Mrs. J.D. [sic] Hastings was held this morning at the Catholic Church, with the Reverend Hall, reading the final rites.
    Interment followed in the Mount Olivet cemetery.
    Senner Funeral home was in charge of Funeral arrangements.


W.H. Foster

Foster Funeral Will Be Held Monday P.M.
The Hugo Daily News January 24, 1937 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for W.H. Foster, pioneer resident of Hugo will be held Monday afternoon at the Snow Funeral home chapel, it was announced Saturday.
    Mr. Foster died at his home south of the city early Saturday morning after a lingering illness.
    Further details concerning the funeral will be published in The Daily News Monday.


Mrs. Jeff Scott

Mrs. Scott Will Be Buried Thurs. P.M.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Jeff Scott 25, of Fort Towson, will be held tomorrow afternoon, according to information from the Snow Funeral home at noon today.
    Mrs. Scott died at the Hugo hospital early this morning. The list of surviving relatives could not be learned late today by The News representative.


Mrs. C.E. Norton

Mrs. Norton Was Buried This P.M.
Pioneer Hugo Resident Succumbed Early Sunday Morning
The Hugo Daily News December 28, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. C.E. Norton, 65, at the Methodist Protestant church at 2:30 o’clock.
    The services were conducted by Reverend J.W. Browers, pastor of the church, and interment followed in the Mount Olivet cemetery.
    Mrs. Norton died at her home at 402 South Second street at 6 o’clock Sunday morning, following a long illness. She was the widow of C.E. Norton, well known restaurant owner who preceded her in death, having died March 31, 1932.
    Mrs. Norton during her long residence in Hugo, had endeared herself to practically all of the Hugo citizens and her death came as a distinct shock to hundreds of friends and acquaintances.
    The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W.A. Harris, of Ft. Worth; and three sons, W.C. Norton, of Fort Worth; Elmer Norton, of Tulsa, and Horace Norton, of Talihina.
    Pall bearers at the service were Tommie Self, Howard Rorie, Haskell Palmer, Bob Jones, L.H. Knox and Dr. W.S. Horton.
    Coffey-Campbell funeral home had charge of funeral arrangements.


Harry Keesee

Harry Keesee Buried Monday
Former Frisco Engineer of Hugo Died In St. Louis
The Hugo Daily News December 15, 1936 – transcribed by Ron Henson

    Funeral services for Harry Keese [sic], veteran Frisco Engineer, of Amory, Mississippi, and formerly of Hugo, were held at Amory Monday, according to information to The News by friends of the family here Monday.
    Mr. Keesee died in the Frisco hospital at St. Louis, following an operation.
    The veteran engineer died last Friday, the information to Hugo friends stated.
    Mr. Keesee came to Hugo in the "early days," having arrived here to take up employment in 1903, and since that time up until the past five years had resided here. During this time he was employed by the Frisco Railway system.
    Early in 1929 or 1930, he moved to Amory, Mississippi, where he worked until he became ill several weeks ago.
    Survivors could not be learned today.
