Mary Clark

Mrs. Mary Clark

     Mrs. Mary Clark, aged 39, widow of C. C. Clark, whose death occurred a few weeks ago, died yesterday near Spencerville from pneumonia. The remains were brought to Hugo today and interment occurred at Spring Chapel. This family has had more than their share of sorrow, a child also dying a short time ago. Several small Children survive, as well as relatives who are prominent farmers in this neighborhood.

Mrs. Thomson Dies Sunday; Rites Tuesday

     Mrs. Bertha Thomson, mother of Mayor Gene Thomson and Calvin Thomson, of Hugo, died early Sunday morning in Memorial Hospital, were she had been critically ill several weeks. Her home was at 204 East Lowery Street.
     Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Rev. Richard McClure, pastor will officiate and Lampton Funeral Home will make burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
     Born Bertha Clark on August 26, 1891 (correction 1896 in Texas) in Indian Territory, Mrs. Thomson was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Clark. She lived in Indian Territory and Oklahoma all her life.
     She was a widow and a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 125.
     In addition to the two sons living in Hugo Mrs. Thomson is survived by six other children. They are Houston Thomson, Dallas, Tex.; Wade Thomson, Bryan, Tex; John Thomson, Muleshoe, Tex.; Mrs. Julia Welch, Tyler, Tex,; Mrs. Myra Mae Johnson, of Cove, Ark.; and Courtney Thomson, of Fowler, Colo. A number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive with one brother, C.D. Clark, of Hugo; and four sisters, Mrs. Moseada Self and Mrs. Lillie Shepard, both of Hugo; Mrs. Georgia Earthman, of Spencerville; and Mrs. Bonnie Palmer, of Dallas, Texas.

Georgia Lee Earthman

     Funeral services for Georgia Lee Earthman of Hugo will be held Saturday, February 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel. reverend Doug McClure will officiate the services. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
     Georgia Lee Earthman was born April 17, 1902 in Spencerville, Oklahoma. She married J. L. "Shiney" Earthman in 1921 in Spencerville. Mrs. Earthman had lived in Choctaw County all of her life. She was a member of the Baptist faith.      Mrs. Earthman passed away on February 20th at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. L; her daughter, Jackie Ingram; four sisters, one brother, and one granddaughter.
     Surviving relatives include two sons: J.T. Earthman and Ray Earthman, Both of Spencerville, Ok.; three daughters: Thelma Brents of Hugo, Marilyn Gooding of Soper, and Fay Young of Sawyer; one sister: Bonnie Palmer of Plano, Tx.; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.


Nadine (Dougle) Self

     Funeral services for Nadine (Dougle) Self will be Tuesday, August 18, 1992. Mrs. Self died August 15, 1992, in Altus, Oklahoma. She was 84.
     Mrs. Self was born January 31, 1908 in Hugo to Mr. and Mrs. Claud Clark. She married Thomas Self on December 10, 1927 in Hugo, Ok. She moved from Hugo 15 years ago.
     Mrs. Self worked in the Altus School System and was a member of Hugo First Baptist Church.
     Mrs. Self was preceded in death by one grandson, David Wayne Self.
     Mrs. Self is survived by her husband, Thomas Self; two sisters: Bonnie Palmer and Georgia Earthman of Hugo; one son, David W. Self; one daughter, Rosetta Holmes of Roswell, New Mexico; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
     Services will be in Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Richard & Doug McClure will officiate.
     Mrs. Self will be buried in Mount Olivet under the direction of Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.


Lillie Shepard

     Mrs. Lillie Shepard, a resident of Hugo, died Monday in her home city. She was 77.
     A homemaker by occupation, she was a member of the First Baptist Church.
     Mrs. Shepard was born Feb. 12, 1910 in Choctaw County. The daughter of Claude and Mary Clark. She had been a resident of this community all of her life.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Shepard in 1964.
     Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Curtis and Barbara Tullos, both of Hugo; three sisters, Dougle Self, Bonnie Palmer and Georgia Earthman, all of Hugo; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
     Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Dempsey Cosper and Rev. Dick McClure will officiate.
     Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. 
     The Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clark Services Set C.D.Clark

     Mr. C.D. Clark, 69, of 406 South 2nd Street passed away Thursday, September 23rd in his home. Mr. Clark, born December 24th, 1912 in Hugo was a retired superintendent of the Hugo Water Dept. and City Engineer with some 40 years of service.
     He was a member of the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church, the IOOF Lodge, and a Volunteer Hugo Fireman for many years.
     Surviving relatives include a son, Michael Clark of Rockwall, Texas; three daughters, Helen Lawrance of Durant, Ellen Tidwell of Nashville, Tenn., and Claudia Clark of Hugo; five sisters, Mrs. Moseada Self of Hugo, Mrs. Lillie Shepard of Hugo, Mrs. Georgia Earthman of Hugo, Mrs. Bonnie Palmer of Dallas and Mrs. Tommie Self of Hugo; and six grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 2:00 p.m. in the Clayton Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Stone will Officiate.
     Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lampton-Mills Funeral Home.

Services Today for W. M. Johnson

     Graveside services in Mt. Olivet cemetery will be held at approximately 5 p.m. this afternoon for W. M. (Will) Johnson, former Choctaw county farmer and cattleman, relatives here announced Saturday.
     Services were scheduled at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist church, Cooper, Texas for Mr. Johnson who died Friday at the age of 75. He suffered a heart attack.
     Mr. Johnson was a pioneer resident of the Hugo area. He settled here prior to statehood. His seven surviving children include:
     Mrs. Albert Fry, 412 South Third and Mrs. Gene Prater, 304 South Seventh, both of Hugo; Astor Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif,; and Martha Ellen Johnson, Emma Lou Tucker, Lorene Hurley and Darwin Johnson, all of Cooper, Texas.

Joseph E. Johnson Dies at Home Here
Services Scheduled For This Afternoon

     Joseph E. Johnson, 65 years old, died at his home, 506 North "G" Sunday. Funeral services were to be held at 4:30 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. W. E. White, Pastor, officiating and Snow Funeral directors in charge. Burial was to be in Springs Chapel cemetery.
     Survivors in addition to his wife are five daughters: Mildred Johnson, Hugo; Mrs. D. B. Long, Klondike, Texas; Mrs. Henry Moyer's, Marshall, Texas; Mrs. Carson Gaylor, Commerce, Texas; two sons, Carl Johnson of San Francisco, California and Ralph Johnson of Hugo; two brothers, Will Johnson of Cooper, Texas; and Tom Johnson of Hugo; and one sister, Mrs. Billie Phillips of Miller, Oklahoma.
     Pall bearers are: T. W. Tyler, Will Brooks, Thomas Self, Henry Sattawhite, Walter Leard, Dan Bridges, Henry Montgomery and Otis Henry Sr.

FUNERAL RITES FOR TOM SELF HELD SATURDAY

     Thomas Sloan Self, 73, a pioneer of this section of Oklahoma, passed away November 20, at the home of his son, Thomas Self, Hugo. Mr. Self was recognized as an outstanding citizen of this section of Oklahoma and particularly of Choctaw county, were he was well known.
     Mr. Self was born in Fannin County, Texas, near Honey Grove, Texas, in 1868 and came to Indian Territory when he was about 14 years of age.
     He moved here with his parents. Later he married Miss Annie Usery, a daughter of James Usery, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation who had become prominent by virtue of his interest in Choctaw politics and held the office of County Judge under Choctaw Tribal Jurisdiction.
     He is survived by his wife, Annie Self and six sons, W. P. Self, Hugo; H. E. Self, Shafter, Calif., J. E. Self, W. O. Self, T. R. Self, and R. R. Self , all of Hugo , and by two brothers: Doss Self, Foreman, Ark., and Chas E. Self, Cloudy, Oklahoma.
     He was a member of the Baptist church for a number of years and was consistent with the Christian tenets of that church.
     Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church, Hugo, on November 22, at 2 o'clock p.m. and interment will be held at Roebuck Cemetery, Southwest of Hugo. 
     Snow Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

TOM SELF BURIAL IS POSTPONED SATURDAY

     Tom Self will not be buried in the Roebuck Cemetery until the roads may be more easily traveled. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist church.

Mary Ann Self Hinton Montgomery

     Funeral services for Mary Ann Self Hinton Montgomery will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, march 12, 1997, at the First Baptist Church in Hugo. Mrs. Montgomery died Saturday, March 8, 1997, in Oklahoma City. She was 71. Mary Ann was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Hugo, Okla., to Ollie and Moseada (Clark) Self. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Hinton, her parents, Ollie and Moseada Self, three brothers, Ursury, Ross and dean Self. Surviving relatives include her husband, Ellis Montgomery, of the home in Oklahoma City, Ok.; one son, Frankie Hinton, Grapevine, Tx,; three brothers: Dick Self, Clark Self, and Jack Self, all of Hugo, Okla.; Ellis' Children, Bob and Dee Ann Montgomery, Randy Montgomery, Margene Montgomery and Rosemary Montgomery, all of Edmond, Okla., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
     Rev. Doug McClure, Pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate the services and burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Hugo, under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
Mary Ann was a retired telephone operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After numerous promotions, she became instrumental in the training and implementation of electronic conversations throughout the state prior to her retirement in 1981.
     During retirement, she remained active in the Telephone Pioneers of America. The same attention to detail and hard work that she had applied to her vocation for 35 years, was transferred to this avocation. In turn, she was elected to all capacities in both the state and the Oklahoma Life Member Club. She considered it both an honor and a privilege to serve her fellow members. Although she thoroughly enjoyed her career, she was just an enthusiastic about her retirement, for it allowed her to pursue her other many interests. She was delighted to be able to spend more time in her beloved Choctaw County, with her many friends and family there, as well as become more active in an extended social circle in Oklahoma City.
     A lifelong Baptist, she attended Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and First Baptist Church in Hugo. Anyone who knew Mary Ann, Could relate many acts of kindness and thoughtful deeds on her part, and the fact that she was an inspiration to a multitude of people.


J.W. Everidge

Captain J.W. Everidge is dead.
Died at Hot Springs This Morning Suddenly--Body Will be Brought Home Tonight--Was Prominent Choctaw.
Early this morning Captain Joseph WE. Everidge died in Hot Springs, Ark., A telegram this morning brought the sad news.

     For the past several months Captain Everidge has been suffering from Bright's Disease. Steadily growing worse his physician at Grant, Dr. Kellum, told him to go to Hot Springs and take the cure under a doctor there. Ten days ago he left for he famous resort in company with his eldest son, J.H. (Duge) Everidge. The physician there told him he could cure him and the sudden death comes as a great shock to his family.
     The body will arrive in Grant Friday night at 10:05 p.m. The funeral will be held Sunday at the old Everidge homestead ten miles from grant, southeast. The services will be in charge of the Masonic order of which Mr. Everidge has been a member for years. Burial will be in the family cemetery on the homestead.
     Captain Everidge was born on the 3rd day of June fifty eight years ago on his farm near Grant. Early in life he assumed a high place in the Choctaw Nation. He occupied the positions of Sheriff of Kiamichi County, Captain of the light horse guard of governor J.F. McCurtain and superintendent of Indian schools. Besides Mrs. Everidge, who was formerly Miss Betty Wilson of Paris, Captain Everidge leaves the following children whose mother was an Oakes: Mrs. Paul Harris of Antlers, Mrs. Ed. Wilson, of Ft. Towson, J. H. and Governor Everidge of Hugo and Will of Valliant, and a daughter named May. The children by his second marriage are: Mrs. E. A. Kellum of Grant, Tom, Gertrude and Robert all of Grant.

     Funeral services for Mary E. (McLemore) Henson of Hugo will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
     Mrs. Henson died Monday, November 24, 2003, in Hugo. She was 93.
     Mary E. Henson was born March 4, 1910, in Seminole, Oklahoma, the daughter of Albert G. & Alzada (Carney) McLemore. She married Elmer H. [sic] Henson August 21, 1926 in Hugo, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death in 1992 after 66 years together. She lived in this area most all her life. She was also preceded in death by one son: Elmer H. Henson, who died in infancy; and her siblings: George McLemore, Owen McLemore, Amos McLemore, Pearley McLemore, Edith Stokes, Viola Browning, and Edna Everidge.
     Surviving relatives: One son and daughter-in-law; Ron and Sarah Henson of Hugo, Okla.; niece: Bonnie Fay Higginbotham of Hugo, Okla.; nephew: James Browning of Hugo, Okla.; grandchildren: Mary & Joe Maxwell of Hugo, Okla., Paul Henson of Hugo, Okla., Rhonda Eustace of Weatherford, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Macy Maxwell & Tyler Maxwell, both of Hugo, Okla., Kirstyn Eustace of Weatherford, Okla.
     Mt. Olivet [sic] Funeral Home, Hugo, in charge of arrangements.
