Thomas Jefferson Hutchings died at his home in the Ervin community at eleven o'clock Sunday morning following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Choate Springs cemetery at 2:30 this afternoon under the direction of the Coffee Funeral Home.Barrett Fellows officiated and the Masons and Oddfellows conducted the the graveside services.Active bearers were: J.T.Reed, Carl McDonald, A.M.Merrill, Fred Whitesel, Carl Bills, Ernest Hardisty, C.E.Redwine and W.E.Schooler. Honorary bearers were B. Nations, Cicero Cornelison, Lee Griggs, Tom Oaks. W.O. Collins, D.T. Brantley, S.L. Hibben and Will Oaks.Thomas Jefferson Hutchings was born in Lamar county Texas on Feb. 11, 1870. He grew to manhood in that community and was married to Miss Tempie Mahon and established his home where he resided until in 1902 when he moved with his family to the Indian Territory and established his home in the Ervin community.He built his farm home in 1917 and has resided there since that time.He had been a member of the Church of Christ for forty years, a Mason for many years and was a member of the Oddfellows lodge at Sawyer but moved his membership to the Hugo lodge several years ago.He is survived by the following sons all of whom reside in the Ervin community: Jim, Jessie, Joe Bailey, Jerry, Julius and Joy Reed. Two sons, John and Jackson died in infancy and daughter Miss Olive, died when she was just about grown.He had been a successful farmer all of his life but ran and was elected a member of the Oklahoma legislature where he served with distinction during the session of 1934.He was the son of W.P. Hutchings of Virginia, who served four years in the Confederate Army and who Immigrated to Texas soon after the close of the war.Mr. Hutchings was one of the most widely known residents of the county and was known and beloved by all who knew him.
