Roy Ray Cowley

Funeral services for Roy Ray Cowley, 72 of Brownsboro, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Athens, Texas. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma on Friday at 2:00 p.m. He passed away Monday in Athens.

Mr. Cowley was born on February 6, 1933 in Maud, Texas to his parents, James and Eva Mathis Cowley. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and moved to Hugo following his military service. He owned and operated his own trucking company and later resided in numerous locations including Alaska, California and Oklahoma. He moved to Henderson County, Texas in 1988.Mr. Cowley was an avid hunter and fisher who loved passing that tradition along to others and especially his grandchildren who called him, Papa. He enjoyed family and friends and was always ready for a conversation or a game of dominos.

Mr. Cowley was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Troy Cowley. He is survived by his son, Kenny Ray Cowley of Brownsboro; brother, Mack Cowley of Anna; sister, Rubye Loise Higginbotham of Hugo, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kye Dakota Cowley of Haslet, Kara Dione Cowley Gartman of Palestine, Krystal Dawn Cowley Miller of Ben Wheeler; great-grandchildren Wyatt Kincade Bishop of Ben Wheeler, Ashlyn Taylor Gartman of Palestine, Kaiden Dwayne Gartman of Palestine.

The family will receive condolences before the service on Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m
