Funeral services for Johnie Christine Ward of Hugo were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2006, at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Hooker officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Johnie Christine Ward passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006 in Hugo at the age of 88. She was born on April 9, 1917 in Soper to Albert R. and Nancy Louella (Easley) Stillwell. She married Ted Hammonds and later married Mel Ward. She had lived in this area for 35 years after moving here from Soper. She had worked as a nurse’s aid at the Golden Age Home and will be greatly missed.

Christine is survived by one son, Chester “Chet” Eugene Hammonds of Modesto, Calif.; one daughter, Frances “Fran” Riley of Soper; three sisters, Ella Cross of Pampa, Texas, Corine Thomas and Bonnie Tuso both of Soper; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Ted Hammonds and Mel Ward; three sisters, Viramay Vaughn, Josephine Routon and Catherine Routon.

The family received friends Thursday, January 26, 2006 in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
