Ruth Cassady Spring

Graveside services for Ruth C. Spring were Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Darrough Pavilion of Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo. Mrs. Spring died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 in Mena, Ark. She was 90.
Ruth Cassady Spring was born Sept. 2, 1915 in Lansing, Tenn., the daughter of Henry and Harriet (Gibbs) Cassady. She married Cecil Spring on April 25, 1943 in Davidson, N.C., in her mother’s home.
She taught school for 35 years before retiring and moving back to this area. She was the fourth grade teacher for Del Monte Elementary School for 15 years in Seaside, Calif., and was known for her individual style of instruction. She worked to be sure every student had curriculum that motivated them to learn.
After her retirement, she enjoyed vegetable gardening, watching birds and squirrels, and staying healthy by studying homeopathy. She would do anything for her family, both physically and financially since she was good at investments. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul Cassady and Henry Cassady, and one sister, Alma Kelly Mason.
Surviving relatives include her husband Cecil Spring, of the home; one son, Gary Lamar Spring, Newark, Calif., one daughter, Linda Spring-Andrews, Durham, N.H., four grandchildren: John Paul Andrews, Bethlehem, Ga., Matthew Clayton Andrews, Raymond, N.H., Rebecca Lynne Andrews, Portsmouth, N.H., and Ryan Lamar Spring, Mena, Ark., one sister, Lois Catherine Welch, Mahopac, N.Y.
